Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘, talented players have created their own personalized designs to give their villages the outfits of their dreams. If you want to try any of these custom codes but don’t know how to use them, keep reading! Here is a guide on how to use different codes to import any custom design into the game.
Nintendo Switch Online app (QR codes only)
QR codes can be imported into the game through two different methods. The first method is available from the start, as long as you have a Nintendo Switch Online account.
Access your phone (your real life smartphone, not your phone in the game Tom Nook gave you) and download the Nintendo Switch Online app. Once downloaded, open it and log into your account. From there, the next time you open the app, you should see Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your home screen, under the heading “Services specific to the game”.
Now open the app together with your Animal Crossing: New Horizons game at the same time. When you reach the game title screen, press the minus (“-“) button, which will open the settings menu. From there, you can activate NookLink, which is the app that connects your IRL smartphone app to in-game functions.
After completing all of these steps, you can now import custom designs via QR code into your game! Using your IRL phone, navigate to the Nintendo Switch Online app, click Animal crossing, select the “designs” application on NookLink, then scan your QR code with your phone. If it has been successfully scanned, you will see it in your Customs Designs app on your in-game Nook Phone.
Able Sisters – Custom Design Portal
The other way to import custom codes is through the Custom Design Portal, which can be found in the Able Sisters store. Since opening the store takes a little time, this method is not available when you start the game for the first time. However, this is the only method to import alphanumeric codes into the game.
Note that you will need to log into your Nintendo Switch Online account to access the portal.
After opening the Able Sisters store, head to the back of the store where you will see a hot pink kiosk in the right corner. This is the Custom Design Portal, where you can search for specific custom outfits, search for different designers, and even share your own custom designs. Click “Search by Designer ID” to find a specific outfit; click on “Search by Designer ID” to find a specific designer; or click on “Publish” to upload your own creations.
If you are looking for a specific design or designer, simply enter the code when prompted and the outfit will appear.
