Developers can now create custom App Store offer codes
Apple is finally allowing developers to create their own custom offer codes for in-app subscriptions.
In 2020, Apple introduced the ability to generate offer codes for in-app subscriptions. However, there were two major limitations: they were randomly generated and were single-use.
On the Apple Developer website, the company announcement that it lifts both limitations so that developers can create offer codes like BRINGONSUMMER that can be used for as long – or, in fact, as short – as desired.
As a reminder, there are now two types of promotional codes:
- Single Use Codes: Unique alphanumeric offer codes. Redeemable on iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 or later.
- Custom Codes: Custom offer codes that can be used by multiple users. Redeemable on iOS 14.1 or iPadOS 14 or later.
Each app is allowed to create up to 150,000 codes per quarter. Codes are redeemable through a user doing it manually in your app or through a new convenient direct URL.
Customers eligible to redeem your code can be defined in App Store Connect and can include new, active, and expired users.
Apple believes the enhanced functionality will make it “even easier to acquire, retain and win back subscribers.”
The company has released a comprehensive guide on setting up offer codes here.
