One of the latest features to arrive for paying iCloud customers is iCloud Plus. The new feature offers several unique benefits, including the ability for iCloud Mail users to use custom email domains.

iCloud Plus allows you to use up to five custom domains to send and receive emails with iCloud Mail. To help you out, here’s what you’ll need to do to use custom email domains in iCloud.

Explanation of custom email domains in iCloud Mail

With an iCloud custom domain, you can send and receive mail using a custom email address. Once you’ve set up the domain, you can configure any existing email addresses you already have, create new ones, or delete ones you no longer need.

To use custom email domains, you must have an Apple ID and use two-factor authentication. You will also need iCloud Mail on your supported devices. You must also be a domain owner.

You can use your personalized email address in the Mail app on any device that’s signed in with your Apple ID and with iCloud Mail turned on or through the ICloud website. Custom email domains can also be used in Messages, FaceTime, and Calendar apps, and to sign in to your device.

At launch, you can send and receive emails with up to five personal domains and up to three addresses per domain.

Setting up custom email domains in iCloud

If you are an iCloud Plus customer and meet the requirements, you can start setting up custom iCloud email domains on the iCloud website.

To set up custom email domains in iCloud:

  1. Connect to the ICloud website.
  2. Click on Account settings.
  3. Scroll down and choose Manage in the Custom Mail Domain section.
    Manage custom email domain
  4. Now indicate who will use the domain. You can choose Only you Where You and your family.
    • To select Only you If you haven’t set up a Family Sharing group or if you are part of a Family Sharing group but don’t want to share the domain.
    • To choose Your family if you are going to share the domain with members of your Family Sharing group. During setup, you can configure the email addresses of each member of your Family Sharing group.
  5. Type it domain name in the box.
  6. Click on To continue.
  7. Add the current emails you own who use this domain, if any, or choose To jump.
    • If you don’t have any emails with the domain yet, add the ones you want here.
  8. To select To continue.
    Create a custom email domain
  9. Connect to your domain account in the pop-up box.
  10. Follow the additional instructions from your domain company.
  11. Choose one default email address from your email list in iCloud Mail.
  12. hurry To continue.
  13. Click on Ended to confirm.

Assuming you’re successful, you should now be able to use your custom domain addresses to send and receive emails on any Apple device that has Mail enabled in iCloud settings or using the iCloud website. You’ll find the email next to your other iCloud email address in the Mail app on your Apple devices.

Examples of iCloud Custom Email Domains

Let’s say you own the domain 1234abc.com and want to start using emails with this domain through iCloud Mail. Once you’ve linked iCloud Mail to your domain account, you can add up to three email addresses.

For example, you can add (via iCloud Mail, not the domain provider itself) self@1234abc.com, partner@1234abc.com, and visitor@1234abc.com. Once you’ve created these email accounts, they’ll be ready to use through the Mail app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, as well as the iCloud website.

Best of all, they’re included in the price of your paid iCloud account. Most domain providers (GoDaddy, for example) charge a fee for emails.

How to delete custom email domains in iCloud Mail

You can delete custom email domains at any time by following these instructions:

  1. Connect to the ICloud Custom Domain Settings Page.
  2. Click on the custom mail domain you want to delete.
  3. Scroll down and select Stop using this domain.
  4. Click on To continue to confirm your choice.
  5. Follow the additional instructions from your domain company.

Cost and benefits of iCloud over iCloud Plus

Remember that iCloud Private Relay comes with a paid iCloud account. To help you gauge the cost of iCloud versus iCloud Plus, here’s an overview of the four available plans:

  • Everyone gets a free iCloud account that includes 5 GB of iCloud storage. (It doesn’t come with iCloud Plus.)
  • For $ 0.99 / month, you can get an iCloud Plus account with 50 GB of storage.
  • You can get 200GB of iCloud storage, which you can share with your Apple family, for $ 2.99 / month.
  • Finally, the iCloud Plus level (2TB) costs $ 9.99 / month, including family sharing.

iCloud vs. iCloud Plus vs. Apple One

The 200GB and 2TB iCloud Plus accounts are also included in the Apple One Family and Apple One Premium plans, respectively. Plus, you can purchase additional iCloud storage separately to complement what’s included with your. Apple One plan.

The custom email domains feature is a great addition to iCloud and should save you money in the long run. It allows you to add emails for domains you already own without paying extra. Best of all, you can use these email addresses just like you would any other Apple Mail app on multiple devices.

Email remains the best medium for professional communication. We use email every day for our business or profession, and it is the most preferred form of communication for business contacts.

Have you ever thought that your emails could have more impact if your email address looked professional?

A work email address should have @ yoursite.com instead of @ gmail.com at the end. So instead of yourname@gmail.com, your email would appear to be from yourname@yourwebsite.com. For example, instead of techexpert@gmail.com, your emails appear to be from techexpert@makeuseof.com.

To create a business email address using Gmail, you must have a custom domain name. Once you have that, keep reading to learn how to configure Gmail to use a custom domain name!

What you need to create a professional email address

To create a business email address, you need to have two things.

The first thing is a domain name, and the second thing is web hosting. We recommend the following web hosting service providers because of their many benefits:

Steps to create a professional email address

Are you ready to create your new email address? Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log into your web hosting account. Once signed in, select the domain property for which you want to create your work email address.

  2. In your cPanel, go to the email setup page.

  3. Click on “Email Accounts” and find the section where you can create a new email account.

  4. Your host already provides you with @ yourdomain.com. Just enter your name before @ yourdomain.com.

  5. Choose your password and confirm it before continuing.

  6. Select the “Unlimited Mailbox Quota” before clicking the “Create Account” button.

    HostGator Control Panel

To note: The specific individual steps may change depending on which web hosting provider you are using, but the idea and procedure is basically the same no matter what.

There ! You have just created your professional email address. Now we need to pair it with Gmail so that you can use it with Gmail, which allows you to use Gmail to send emails using @ yourdomain.com instead of @ gmail.com.

Setting up Gmail with your personalized email address

Follow these steps to link your new work email address to Gmail:

  1. Log into your Gmail account and go to “Settings” in the upper right corner.

  2. Click on “View all settings”.

  3. Click on the “Accounts and Import” tab at the top.

  4. Scroll down to find “Check Mail from Other Accounts” and click “Add Mail Account.”

  5. You will see a yellow pop-up window. Here you need to fill in the professional email address you created on your web hosting and then click “Next”.

    Add a Gmail email account

  6. Click “Next” with the “POP3” option selected.

  7. In the next window, enter the same username and password that you entered for your web hosting.

How to create an alias in Gmail

An alias is the name you see when you receive an email. You can choose it to be your first name, middle name and last name, brand name, or any other name you want.

For example, you can create a customer service email address and name your alias “Customer Support”. Your email can be support@yourwebsite.com, and when your customers see your email in their inbox, they can see “Customer Support” as the sender in their inbox.

Once you’ve created your work email address and linked it to Gmail, you’ll be asked to add an alias:

  1. Do not uncheck the “Treat as alias” box when the window opens.

  2. Enter the alias name that you want your customers to see when you send emails. Click on “Next step”.

    Add another email address window

  3. Add the same username and password you used before for your web hosting and association with Gmail.

  4. Use the TLS method and click “Add Account”.

Verifying your new email account

Once you’ve created your work email account and linked it to Gmail, you need to verify it to start sending and receiving emails. To do this, you must:

  1. Go to the “Accounts & Import” tab in Settings.

  2. Scroll down to “Check mail from other accounts” and click “Check mail now.”

  3. You will now see that you have a new email. The new email you see is an email that Gmail sends to you for verification. Initially, you need to check your emails as this is a new account and has no activity history. Once you start sending and receiving emails on this email account, you won’t have to do it manually.

  4. Go to your inbox and you will see the email from the Gmail team. This email contains a link and a one-time password that you must use for verification.

  5. Click on the link and it will open a new window. Click on “Confirm” and close the window.

  6. You will find a code at the end of this email, and you must copy it before pasting it into the yellow window where it asks for your verification code.

Test your new business email with Gmail

Now that you’ve finished creating and associating your new work email address, it’s time to test it before you implement it.

Use any other email account you might have and send yourself a test email to your new work email address. Make sure to also send an email reply from your new email account to make sure it can both receive AND send emails.

Now that you’ve tested your new business email account, I hope everything is going well. You can now use your work email address to send and receive work emails for your business.

You no longer need to send emails to businesses and feel dejected when you don’t receive a reply just because your email is from @ gmail.com!

These steps may seem intimidating to some of you, but trust me, it should only take 15-20 minutes of your time. The benefits and rewards you will reap by investing those few minutes into creating your professional Gmail email address are priceless.
